We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as Accountant – Germany, reporting to the Finance Manager (also based in Budapest). This full-time and permanent position is based in Budapest, Hungary and plays a key role in maintaining the quality and integrity of accounting records for Vistra’s German business.

 

 


Purpose of the Role

 


We are looking for an Accountant to join the Finance Team, supporting the accounting operations for Vistra’s German business from our Budapest office. Vistra is a leading global fund administration, trust and corporate services provider. The candidate will report to the Finance Manager and work closely with a Senior Accountant based in Frankfurt and with Shared Services.

 


This is a core accounting role focused on maintaining high-quality, accurate, and timely financial records.

 

The role holder will be responsible for day-to-day transactional accounting and reconciliation activities, contributing to the smooth operation of the month-end and year-end close cycles. Core areas of responsibility include:

 

  • Day-to-day transactional accounting
  • Bank and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Accounts payable and accounts receivable processing
  • Intercompany transaction accounting
  • Support of the month-end and year-end close, variance analysis
  • Maintenance of accurate and complete accounting records

Key Responsibilities

 


Accounting records: Maintain high-quality, accurate, and complete accounting records for the German entity, ensuring all transactions are posted correctly and in a timely manner.

 

Transactional accounting: Perform day-to-day accounting activities including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank and cash postings, expense accruals, and intercompany transaction processing.

 

Reconciliations: Prepare bank reconciliations and balance sheet account reconciliations for assigned accounts, investigating and resolving reconciling items promptly.

 

Month-end and year-end close: Support the Finance Manager in delivering the month-end and year-end close, preparing journal entries, accruals, and supporting schedules to established deadlines. Provide input into trend analysis.

 

Accounts payable: Process vendor invoices, ensure appropriate approvals, and prepare payment runs in accordance with company policies.

 

Intercompany accounting: Process and reconcile intercompany transactions, ensuring balances are agreed and cleared in a timely manner.

 

Documentation and controls: Maintain well-organised supporting documentation for all accounting entries and ensure adherence to internal financial controls and procedures.

 

Shared Services coordination: Work with Vistra Shared Services teams on operational accounting tasks, ensuring outputs are accurate and meet required standards.

 

Systems: Maintain accounting records in the relevant ERP and accounting systems. Familiarity with DATEV is a strong advantage; exposure to SAP S/4HANA is beneficial.

 

Ad-hoc support: Provide support to the Finance Manager and Senior Accountant on financial analysis, projects, and other ad-hoc requests as required.

 

 

Key Requirements

 

  • Qualified Chartered Accountant or equivalent professional accounting qualification (mandatory)
  • 2+ years’ experience in finance role
  • Working proficiency in German and English highly desired; candidates with strong German and moderate English will also be considered
  • Strong reconciliation skills and attention to detail, with a commitment to the accuracy and completeness of accounting records
  • Proficiency with Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); strong Excel skills required
  • Ability to meet deadlines associated with the month-end close and recurring deliverables
  • Organised, methodical, and able to manage multiple tasks
  • High degree of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality

 

Preferred:

 

  • Strong familiarity with DATEV accounting software (strongly preferred)
  • Familiarity with German business practices, accounting standards, or regulatory environment
  • Experience with SAP S/4HANA
  • Experience in the financial services, fund administration, or corporate services industry
