About the role
We are looking for an experienced VAT Manager to join our Luxembourg Indirect Tax team, focusing on VAT compliance services for an international client portfolio.
In this role, you will combine technical VAT expertise, client relationship management and team leadership, ensuring high-quality delivery of VAT compliance services while acting as a key point of contact for day-to-day client queries and complex technical matters.
You will work with a diverse range of international clients, primarily in the financial sector (Private Equity, Real Estate, Funds, Capital Markets and corporates), and collaborate closely with internal teams including Finance and operational departments.
Key responsibilities
1) VAT compliance & technical expertise
- Oversee the preparation and review of VAT returns and related compliance obligations for an international client portfolio
- Ensure timely and accurate delivery of all VAT compliance services
- Act as the main contact for day-to-day VAT queries, providing practical and technically sound guidance to clients
- Handle and resolve complex VAT technical matters independently, ensuring appropriate documentation and follow-up
- Maintain strong knowledge of Luxembourg VAT rules and their practical application across different industries
2) Client relationship management
- Manage a portfolio of international clients and act as their primary VAT contact
- Build strong relationships and develop a good understanding of clients’ business activities
- Ensure a high level of responsiveness and service quality in all interactions
- Coordinate with internal departments (including Finance) and external stakeholders where required
- Support onboarding of new clients and ensure smooth integration into the team
3) Team leadership & offshore coordination
- Supervise, guide and review the work performed by the local team and offshore service centre
- Ensure consistent quality standards and efficient workflow across onshore and offshore teams
- Coach and develop team members, providing technical support and feedback
- Contribute to recruitment, onboarding and performance management activities
- Promote knowledge sharing and continuous development within the team
4) Operational & financial management
- Oversee invoicing processes and ensure effective follow-up
- Optimise processes and workflows to improve efficiency and service delivery
- Ensure compliance with internal policies, procedures and regulatory requirements (including AML)
5) Contribution to team and business development
- Support the growth of the VAT compliance practice through active involvement in process improvements and new initiatives
- Identify opportunities to expand services within the existing client base
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to strengthen the overall Tax Services offering
Your profile
- University degree in Tax, Accounting or Law, with a focus on Indirect Tax
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Luxembourg VAT, with strong exposure to VAT compliance
- Solid technical knowledge of Luxembourg VAT and ability to deal with practical technical issues independently
- Experience managing client relationships and coordinating with multiple stakeholders
- Experience supervising teams, including working with offshore resources is an advantage
- Fluent in English; French or German is a strong asset
- Strong organisational and communication skills with attention to detail
