Technical Consultant - Payment Automation
Job Description - Fixed-Term Contract (18 months), India
Are you looking for an exciting opportunity within a highly successful global payroll services business? Are you a technically minded professional who understands payment files, banking platforms and General Ledger outputs? Are you looking to develop your career through our values of Respect, Integrity, Teamwork, Accountability, Diversity and Community? Do you have a strong work ethic, a global mindset and the desire to help build a great culture?
Vistra+iiPay has a unique opportunity for a motivated Technical Consultant to join the Payment Automation project, a funded initiative within our wider payroll platform migration programme. Today our payments team keys payroll payments by hand, one by one, into our banking platforms. As each client migrates onto our payroll platform, you will build the configuration that replaces that manual keying: a payment output file uploaded straight into our payment platform or into the client’s own bank, and, where Vistra performs the client’s accounting, the General Ledger file posted into our accounting platform. This is a fixed-term (18 month), India-based role in a dedicated project team.
Role overview
Our highly motivated and engaged team members are at the heart of our success! The Payment Automation team works alongside our migration and implementation and treasury teams to configure, test and deliver payment and General Ledger outputs across our global client base. The role involves working closely with the migration team, to slot configuration into each monthly go-live wave; the payments team, who test and sign off every file before manual keying stops; and our systems and product teams.
The Technical Consultant will deliver three pieces of configuration per payroll: (1) payment parameters in the payroll platform to generate the payment output file; (2) the output file format - for our payment platform, or the format accepted by the client’s own bank; and (3) where relevant, the General Ledger report into the accounting platform. You will work to a standard, repeatable build pattern, prioritising high-volume payrolls first, and keep the project tracker up to date so progress and blockers are visible to the project team.
Key Objectives
Core Technical Consultant Objectives & Responsibilities
- Configuring payment files - build the payment output per payroll to our standard payment platform upload format or to the relevant client-bank format, working from the bank’s file specification and the project’s format library, and liaising with the client and their bank where needed to obtain and clarify specifications
- Configuring General Ledger (GL) outputs - build the GL report into the accounting platform to the standard mapping template where Vistra performs the client’s accounting, with relevant testing
- Testing and go-live - test each file end to end with the payments team, support their UAT
and obtain sign-off before the payroll’s first payment run on the new platform; manual keying stops only once the file is proven
- Working to the migration schedule - deliver configuration in step with the monthly migration go-live waves, completing each payroll’s build and testing around four weeks before its go-live, and keep the project tracker current
- Standardisation and documentation - apply and improve the repeatable build patterns, runbook and checklists; flag early where a client bank cannot accept a standard format or a specification is missing
Required Skillset
- An individual who has advanced Excel capabilities in addition to a strong logical and analytical approach
- Ability to interpret file specification documents (bank upload formats, GL mapping templates) and configure system outputs to them
- Experience of payroll, banking or finance systems configuration; global payroll platform experience an advantage
- Understanding of bank payment file formats and/or General Ledger interfaces; accounting platform experience an advantage
- Exceptional communication skills, able to communicate effectively with clients, banks and internal teams including Treasury, adapting your style to a variety of stakeholders, including those where English is not their first language
- Strong organisation skills including the ability to establish priorities, develop work plans, assess progress towards goals, and pay attention to detailed data and information
- Highly resilient and able to manage stress effectively in a fast-paced, delivery-focused environment
- Ability to work autonomously
- Confidence in dealing with ambiguity, uncertainty and the need to change rapidly
- Highly motivated and driven professional with a proven track record of delivering to deadline with high levels of quality and accuracy
- Experience within an accounting, banking or payroll environment
Project Context & Ways of Working
- The project - Payment Automation removes the manual keying of payroll payments, releasing recurring capacity in the payments team; it is a formally governed workstream of the Vistra+iiPay integration
- Reporting line - you will report to the Team Leader, Technical Consultants, with day-to-day priorities set by the project plan and the migration schedule
- Key partners - the payments team (UAT and sign-off), the migration team, the Treasury team, and the product and systems teams; externally, clients and their banks where file specifications and testing require it
- Pace and prioritisation - configuration follows the monthly migration waves, highest-volume payrolls first; the role is delivery-focused with a high volume of similar builds
- Controls - work within a regulated (ISAE 3402 / SSAE 16) service delivery environment; every file is evidenced, tested and signed off before manual keying stops
- Escalations - raise blockers early (missing bank specifications, non-standard formats, schedule clashes) so they are resolved before they affect a go-live
What we are looking for in you
- Strong data coordination skills and a keen attention to detail
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage clients, banks and internal teams, and to manage time-critical tasks across time zones
- Experience of using or managing banking and finance processes and their associated systems
- Experience of configuring outputs on payroll, banking or finance platforms to written specifications
- Highly motivated and driven professional individual with proven track record of delivering projects on time with high levels of customer satisfaction.
- Experience of working within a regulated (ISAE 3402 / SSAE 16) service delivery environment
- A completer-finisher, able to deliver a high volume of similar builds accurately and to schedule in a time-pressured environment
The successful applicant will ideally have experience in the configuration and delivery of bank files and finance reports in a global payroll environment. They should have the ability to become a systems expert on our payroll platform, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent written and verbal communication, and a keen attention to detail. This is a fixed-term, India-based role for approximately 18 months, with the scope and pace set by the migration programme.
