We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as Senior BI Developer. Reporting to the Group Executive Director, Business Intelligence, this is a full-time and permanent position based in Sydney.

 

Key responsibilities:

 

  • ETL Development: Design and develop ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to integrate data from various sources into BI platforms, ensuring data accuracy and consistency.
  • Report and Dashboard Creation: Create complex, interactive, and visually compelling reports and dashboards using BI tools like Power BI or Tableau to meet the needs of business stakeholders.
  • Data Warehousing & Architecture Design: Lead the design, implementation, and optimisation of data warehouses and data models to support reporting, analytics, and business intelligence needs.
  • Business Insights & Data Analysis: Communicate actionable insights, trends and patterns that support decision-making and drive business strategy with senior leadership and other stakeholders.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with business leaders, data scientists, and other teams to understand business requirements and translate them into actionable BI solutions.
  • Mentoring: Provide guidance, training, and support to junior BI developers, helping them enhance their technical skills and grow professionally.
  • Data Governance: Ensure the accuracy, quality, and security of data by implementing and enforcing data governance standards and best practices.
  • Troubleshooting & Issue Resolution: Address and resolve technical issues related to BI tools, data sources, and processes to minimise system downtime and ensure consistent data access.
  • Performance Tuning: Optimise the performance of BI systems, including queries, reports, and dashboards, by addressing bottlenecks and improving overall efficiency.
  • Knowledge Maintenance: Keep up with the latest BI tools, technologies, and best practices, incorporating them into projects.

 

Key requirements:

 

  • Relevant certifications in Data Analytics, Data Engineering, Data Visualisation and/or Database Management
  • Any certifications in Data Science, Machine Learning or AI can be a plus.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong SQL and/or Python development experience for data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL), and optimising queries for performance.
  • Data Engineering: Proficiency in designing, building and maintaining data pipelines and architectures, including integration of data from diverse sources such as APIs, flat files, relational databases and NoSQL databases.
  • Data Visualisation: Extensive experience using BI tools like Power BI, Tableau, or similar for designing interactive reports, dashboards and visualisations.
  • Data Warehousing: Experience in designing and maintaining data warehouses and data marts, including understanding of star/snowflake schemas, fact and dimension tables, and normalisation techniques.
  • Communication: Excel in written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Problem-Solving: Possess strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Collaboration: Demonstrated ability collaborating with stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver solutions.
  • Mentorship: Experience with mentoring junior developers, providing guidance and conducting code reviews.
  • Adaptability: Thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Data Governance: Understanding of data governance principles and practices to ensure data quality and compliance.
  • Big Data Tools/Platforms: Experience delivering solutions in platforms such as Databricks, Palantir Foundry or Ab Initio.
  • Cloud Computing: Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Big Data Technologies: Knowledge of big data tools and frameworks like Spark, Hadoop and Kafka.
  • DevOps: Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools for continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD).
  • Cybersecurity: Awareness of cybersecurity principles to protect data and automation systems.
